Postdoctoral Research Scientist In DNA Repair Biology
University Of Oxford
Description
Postdoctoral Research Scientist in DNA repair biology
MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, MRC Molecular Haematology Unit, John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford OX3 9DS
Applicants are invited for a Postdoctoral research scientist position working in the field of DNA repair in Professor Ross Chapman's laboratory at the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine.
The successful candidate will lead a research project focusing on the spatiotemporal regulation of DNA double-strand (DSB) repair pathway choice, with a specific focus on defining its control by BRCA1 and its derivative sub- complexes. This position will particularly suit a candidate with an interest in DNA repair and recombination, with an established track record in applying cell biology, molecular genetics (e.g. directed and/or genome-wide CRISPR approaches) and advanced microscopy techniques to the study of genome regulation, cell division and the preservation of genome stability.
You will be based in the Chapman laboratory and will work directly with Professor Chapman and his team. You will also work alongside other MRC Molecular Haematology Unit groups, with interests spanning aspects of genome stability, chromatin and transcription, cell lineage development in relation to haematopoiesis. You will also be supported by world-class core facilities within the unit, including advanced microscopy, FACS, transgenics, next- generation sequencing, single-cell sequencing and genome editing, all based at the WIMM.
The postholder will be responsible for developing and undertaking a semi- independent research projects. You will utilise a complement of molecular genetics, advanced microscopy (including live cell imaging), and mechanistic molecular cell biology techniques to study the mechanisms underpinning, and interplay between, accurate and mutagenic DNA double-strand break repair pathways.
The successful candidate will hold a A PhD (or near completion) in chromosome biology, cancer biology, genome stability biology or allied relevant area, and will have strong track record of project completion as evidenced by publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals. Experience in in molecular and cell biology and molecular genetics techniques is essential, as is a demonstrable expertise in advanced microscopy and quantitative live cell imaging.
This is a full-time position available for 47 months, funded by Cancer Research UK.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement detailing how you meet the selection criteria, as part of your online application.
The closing date for this position is 12.00 midday on 14th October 2022.
We are expecting to hold interviews as soon as possible afterwards.
Committed to equality and valuing diversity.
